Vehicle

The vehicle used for this journey will be a monovalent Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel. The car features a 2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that has been optimised for economical natural gas operation and delivers 80 kW (109 PS). The team will set out for its journey around the globe in an unchanged series vehicle. However, the four existing under-floor tanks will be supplemented with nine extra tanks. Altogether, the team will be able to drive a distance of approximately 2,500 kilometres without having to refuel.

Natural gas

During the entire expedition, the Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel will exclusively run on CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). 32 natural gas stations serve to ensure the fuel supply along the entire route. One of the goals of the EcoFuel World Tour is to show that natural gas is a globally available fuel that constitutes a real alternative to conventional fuel types based on mineral oil. And also from an ecological point of view, this alternative fuel is absolutely convincing: the Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel’s emissions contain clearly lower volumes of carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and soot particles than petrol or diesel-driven vehicles.
